A Maryland man accused of robbing an Acworth credit union with a gun and what he claimed was an explosive device is now in custody — and investigators say they’ve linked him to two other heists in Georgia.

Jason Dixon, 54, of Owings Mills, Maryland, faces federal charges in the string of bank robberies, Acworth police Cpl. Stanley Almon said Friday.

Dixon is accused of holding up the Credit Union of Georgia along Cobb Parkway the afternoon of Sept. 2 before leaving in a black Hyundai SUV driven by someone else, authorities said. The incident was captured on surveillance cameras, and police made those photos public shortly after the robbery.

Acworth police said they were able to gather evidence that helped identify the man.

The FBI executed a search warrant at Dixon’s home earlier this month and discovered “numerous items” connecting him to the September robbery, authorities said. He was taken into custody Oct. 1 and faces a federal charge of bank robbery by force or violence, Almon said. It wasn’t immediately clear Friday afternoon where he is being held.

An FBI spokesman said Dixon’s case has already been indicted, and referred The Atlanta Journal-Constitution to federal prosecutors for more information about the other Georgia robberies. Almon said his department’s investigation is ongoing, and that anyone with additional information is asked to call Acworth police at 770-974-1232.
