A little boy is being called a hero after he stepped into action to protect his younger sister, reports say.

WNCN reported 6-year-old Bridger Walker had multiple dog bites to his face when he stood between his sister and a charging dog, according to an Instagram post from his aunt.

“On July 9th, my six year old nephew Bridger saved his little sister’s life by standing between her and a charging dog,” the boy’s aunt, Nicole Walker, wrote on Instagram July 12. “After getting bit several times on the face and head, he grabbed his sister’s hand and ran with her to keep her safe.

“He later said, ‘If someone had to die, I thought it should be me.' After receiving 90 stitches (give or take) from a skilled plastic surgeon, he’s finally resting at home. We love our brave boy and want all the other superheroes to know about this latest hero who joined their ranks.”

Walker shared the short with the hope of getting her nephew’s brave act, which she said happened in Cheyenne, Wyoming, more exposure.

She did. The post has more than 789,000 likes and Walker says she has been overwhelmed with the response.

“So much love from all walks of life (including a few celebs)!,” she shared in a Tuesday post.

Walker previously said Bridger is a fan of the Avengers, and when someone asked which ones in particular, she said Chris Pratt and Tom Holland, who played Star-Lord and Loki in the Marvel films.

He also got a video message from Captian America himself, Chris Evans.

“What you did was so brave, so selfless,” Evans said. “Your sister is lucky to have you as a big brother. Your parents must be so proud of you.”

“Keep being the man you are,” he added. “We need people like you.”

He also said he would be sending him an authentic Captain America shield.

And according to Walker, Bridger is doing well as he continues to recover.

“His wounds are looking so much better!” she said after visiting with her nephew in an update to her July 12 post. “He’s in great spirits, and his awesome personality is intact. He can’t smile too widely yet, but he was grinning as I read some of your comments to him.”

Although Walker didn’t mention the breed of the dog that attacked Bridger, she said the owners have been in communication with the family.

“I’d also like to mention here that the dog’s owners are really great people who have been nothing but kind to Bridger and his family,” she wrote. “We feel no resentment toward them at all, and—if anything—there’s only been an increase of love between our families as a result of this incident.”

Rather than set up a fundraiser for Bridger, Walker said her nephew’s parents have asked that people donate to the Wounded Warrior Project or Mission 22, organizations that assist active duty service members and veterans.
