A street-racing bust in Clayton County led to 102 arrests early Sunday, according to police. It was the latest crackdown on racing in metro Atlanta, where police agencies continue to fight the illegal, noisy and potentially dangerous activity.

Around midnight, officers were called to the Sam’s Club on Jonesboro Road on reports of street racers laying drag in the parking lot, Officer Aubriel Stroud, spokeswoman for Clayton police, said in an emailed statement.

“Of course, some tried to leave, driving over sidewalks and medians attempting to flee but, no worries, we got them, too,” Stroud said. “Remember, we do not tolerate street racing in Clayton County.”

A total of 75 adults were arrested and charged with loitering or prowling, with some being charged with possession of a firearm under 18, police said. Also, 27 juveniles were arrested and their parents were charged with curfew violations. The names of those charged were not released.

Investigators impounded 48 vehicles and seized four firearms and less than an ounce of marijuana.

Clayton deputies, Jonesboro and Morrow police officers and the Georgia State Patrol assisted with the arrest, along with 911 dispatchers.

The Atlanta Police Department has been fighting street racing for much of the past year, but it has also spread into the suburbs. Last week, Gwinnett police said that county has also seen an uptick in racing. The department said it conducted traffic stops for street racing on more than 300 drivers during a recent weekend.
