One person was arrested Tuesday after a man and a woman were found fatally shot in a road in a North Georgia neighborhood.

Few details about the incident have been released, but authorities said the bodies were found near Ga. 82 in the eastern part of Barrow County. Sheriff Jud Smith said the shooting may have been an act of self-defense, according to the Barrow News-Journal.

The initial call came in as a report of “suspicious people” wearing masks standing around a home, Barrow sheriff’s office spokesman Maj. Ryan Sears said. When deputies arrived about 1:30 a.m., they found the woman’s body inside of a car.

A short time later, officers from the Winder Police Department told the sheriff’s office they had found another person’s body just up the road, Sears said. Investigators determined the man had died during the same incident that led to the woman’s death.

The sheriff’s office did not release the names of the victims, but said they were in their late teens or early 20s. No information on the suspect was released, but officials said they are being held at the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center.

An investigation is ongoing.
