Following a recent public hearing, the Sugar Hill City Council approved a request for a special use permit for an animal day care facility at 5304 Sycamore Road. The property was formerly used as a church and is next door to the Sugar Hill Plantation neighborhood.
Approval first required the city to make a zoning change to allow for animal day care facilities defined as an establishment in which household pets are kept during daytime hours for the benefit of persons who do not reside on the premises. Facilities may provide outdoor runs, shelter, feeding, training and grooming services. The zoning does not allow overnight boarding.
The approved facility will operate with up to 15 dogs for full-day or half-day stays 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. Training services will be offered from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday. No services will be provided on Sunday.
Approval restricts outdoor operating hours to 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and zoning buffer was reduced to 25 feet for outdoor runs and fencing must be located within the existing turf areas. No additional clearing or land disturbance is allowed.
