The mini version of Macy’s is now open and selling merchandise in two metro Atlanta counties, just in time for the holiday shopping season.

The company opened its first two Georgia locations of Market by Macy’s, a smaller format of the department store often found in shopping malls, on Friday at Presidential Markets on Scenic Highway in Snellville and South Point Shopping Center on Ga. 20 in McDonough.

Market by Macy’s stores offer a narrower selection of the same clothing brands found at a full-sized Macy’s. But they also carry an expanded array of beauty products and items from local vendors.

The new format, launched last year in Texas and now with five U.S. locations, comes as department stores continue to vacate once thriving shopping malls. Macy’s recently closed its locations at Greenbriar Mall and at Gallery at South DeKalb Mall, leaving about 15 full-line and furniture locations across metro Atlanta.

The new Market by Macy’s locations will continue celebrating their grand openings through Halloween, offering free makeovers, costume contests and giveaways.
