A DoorDash delivery driver was shot in the back Tuesday night while dropping off food near Ponce City Market in northeast Atlanta, police said.

The man was shot in the 700 block of Ponce de Leon Place, across the street from the popular Old Fourth Ward shopping and dining destination. He was conscious when officers responded about 9:20 p.m., according to Atlanta police.

The victim was taken to a hospital, and an update on his condition was not provided.

No suspects were identified Tuesday. The shooting remains under investigation.

“The safety of our community is extremely important to us, and we are deeply saddened by reports of this tragic, senseless incident,” a DoorDash spokesperson told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The company said it regularly works with law enforcement agencies to be helpful when it can and that it communicates safety tips and best practices to drivers in a weekly newsletter.

Earlier this month, DoorDash launched SafeDash, a tool kit available to delivery drivers within the company’s app that helps connect drivers with help when they need it. The company did not provide further information about the driver who was shot Tuesday but said it is cooperating with Atlanta police in their investigation.
