Does a day without doughnuts leave a hole in your heart?
OK, that may be a bit extreme, but there are few that can deny that a jelly-filled, frosted or glazed hole or full-on doughnut doesn’t hit the spot first thing in the morning.
Even if you want to take on the treat for a spin at night, Atlanta has a number of doughnut shops that will give you one single reason or a dozen reasons to step out for doughnut delight.
Ahead of National Doughnut Day, which is June 7, AJC readers took the time to vote for crème de la crème of cakey, powdered and sprinkle options across the city. More than 7,000 votes came in for the best doughnuts.
Coming in third place is an underrated Cobb County shop called Dough in the Box. The Marietta doughnut shop offers Guava and Cream doughnuts, Mango Coconut and many other varieties. On Friday, Dough in the Box is giving away one free doughnut to every customer.
A better-known doughnut spot, Revolution Doughnuts & Coffee, took the second place spot on our poll. Maria Moore Riggs, the owner, serves up a dense, doughy alternative in flavors like Orange Pistachio. There's even a vegan option.

The top contender on our doughnut poll has received national accolades like being named one of the "best doughnut shops in all 50 states" by Travelocity. Sublime Doughnuts, with locations in Midtown and North Druid Hills, is the No. 1 doughnut shop in Atlanta, according to our poll. Fans of the shop enjoy the Cinnamon Toast Crunch doughnut. If you're really feeling adventurous, you can try the doughnuts in the form of a juicy burger at Cypress Hill Pint & Plate.
