Think that “Jazzy Jane” Magnolia would look perfect in your backyard garden?

Trees Atlanta, which aims to have a canopy of green around the city, is set to kick off its 30th planting season with a silent auction featuring rare and unusual plants, including Parrotia Persian Spire and a "Peaches and Cream" Japanese Maple.

The annual fall fundraising event, Tailgate for Trees, will be held 6 p.m. Sept. 17 at Ladybird Grove & Mess Hall, 684 John Wesley Dobbs Ave. N.E.

As part of the activities Trees Atlanta will open the TreeHouse, a 3,800 square-foot building, which will feature multi-purpose areas for educational classes and lectures. A backdoor opens directly onto the Atlanta Beltline’s Eastside Trail, which serves as an outdoor classroom and lab.

The planting seasons runs from October through March.

Tickets are $50. Patron level tickets (with additional benefits) begin at $125. Proceeds benefit Trees Atlanta.
