Gwin Ifill’s Forever stamp will be available starting next week.
The U.S. Postal Service announced in December that the late journalist and PBS NewsHour host, will be honored on a Forever stamp.
Other 2020 stamps include a tribute to golf legend Arnold Palmer, a celebration of the 200th anniversary of Maine statehood and recognition of the Harlem Renaissance.
“These miniature works of art offer something for everyone interested in American history and culture,” U.S. Postal Service Stamp Services Acting Executive Director William Gicker said in a release.
Ifill’s stamp includes her name, photo and the words “Black Heritage” across the top. It’s the 43rd stamp in USPS’ “Black Heritage” series.
The press release calls Ifill “a trailblazer” in her profession, as one of “ the first African Americans to hold prominent positions in both broadcast and print journalism.”
“From notable figures such as golf legend Arnold Palmer and esteemed journalist Gwen Ifill to the cultural phenomenon of hip hop to a celebration of the great outdoors, this program is wide-ranging and adds to the history of our great nation as recorded through the U.S. stamp program,” Gicker said in the release.
The Forever stamps have been issued every year since 2007 to celebrate “people, events and cultural milestones” in the U.S.
Ifill died in 2016 due to complications from cancer.
