It wasn't quite the Easter Beagle, but the Obamas did receive a canine friend on Easter weekend 2009: their new Portuguese water dog, Bo.

Bo is 6 months old and fulfills the president's promise to get a dog for his two daughters.

President George W. Bush had two dogs: Scottish terrier, Barney, right, and English Springer Spaniel, Spot. They would play on the north lawn of the White House,

President Bush and first lady Laura Bush walk Spot.

President George H. Bush and first lady Barbara Bush also owned a dog, Millie. She was a Springer Spaniel.

President Clinton had two pets. The laid back one was Socks, the cat.

Socks shared the White House with Buddy, a Labrador. She, at times, wanted the whole place to herself.

Socks was later given to Clinton's retiring secretary Betty Currie in 2001. He was around 18 when he died.
