Museum curator Jonathan Scott sets a Lorenz Rifle in its display case. The inconsistent quality and traditional muzzle-loading technique of this Austrian made rifle commonly used by Confederate regiments fighting in Georgia allowed the user to fire only 2-3 rounds per minute. Displayed next to it is a Spencer Repeating Rifle, which was able to fire seven cartridges before reloading, which allowed the user to fire 14-22 rounds per minute. “1864” is a new exhibit at Kennesaw's Southern Museum. The Civil War exhibit, which features letters, interactive exhibits and a number of never-before-displayed artifacts, examines both how the tactics of warfare changed as well as the war’s effect on soldiers and civilians alike.
