UPDATE: Due to the coronavirus outbreak, Atlanta's Kirkwood neighborhood has canceled its annual Spring Fling fundraiser originally slated for May 16.

The neighborhood made the announcement on social media this week.

“It was a difficult decision knowing how much this festival means to our community, but with no indication that the COVID-19 pandemic is subsiding it does not seem safe or feasible to proceed with a large gathering ‪on May 16,” the post reads in part. “We are considering the possibility that standalone elements of the festival could be either held virtually or rescheduled to a later date, but it's unlikely we'll know for certain until the city returns to business as usual.”

ORIGINAL STORY (FEB. 21)

Spring means it’s time for a fling — at least in Kirkwood.

The Atlanta neighborhood will host its annual Spring Fling festival for the 18th year. Proceeds from the festivities benefit the Kirkwood Neighbors Organization.

The nonprofit neighborhood group does work in the community throughout the year, including Kirkwood Cares, which helps longtime residents who are facing displacement stay in their homes.

The Spring Fling is the neighborhood’s largest annual fundraiser. It features fun for folks of all ages.

The festivities get underway at 8:30 a.m. on May 16 with a 5K at the Kirkwood Library. At noon, the tour of homes will begin, offering a peek inside some of the neighborhood’s historic homes.

Then, throughout the day, there will be an artist’s market, live music and plenty of grub.

There will also be a barbecue competition and a kid’s zone for youngsters. The event, held in Bessie Branham Park, is free to attend.
