With schools across the country closed amid the coronavirus, both high school and college seniors are missing out on celebrating the milestone of graduation.

But various groups are finding ways to make it special for seniors, including the Human Rights Campaign and GLSEN. The two advocacy groups have teamed up to host a virtual graduation ceremony for LGBTQ+ seniors.

The event, which will be held at 4 p.m. on Friday, May 8, “will include many traditional elements of a graduation ceremony,” according to HRC.

HRC president Alphonso David and GLSEN Executive Director Eliza Byard will speak. There will also be a commencement address, valedictorians, “dynamic LGBTQ+ students” recognition and music.

The event will also highlight HRC’s HBCU program, which “partners with HBCUs on establishing an LGBTQ+-inclusive campus climate and leadership convening.”

Registration for the event is free for graduates and their families. More information can be found here.
