History: Hosea Feed the Hungry and Homeless, now known as Hosea Helps, has been giving Atlantans hot meals and warm smiles during the holidays for nearly 50 years.

Did you know: In one day, the holiday program can serve as many as 7,000 people. Today the organization helps individuals and families who have food, finance, shelter, or clothing challenges by providing resources such as school supplies, toiletries, toys, medical screenings and job placement services.

Its motto: In the spirit of its founding president, Hosea Williams, this organization aims to prevent homelessness, stabilize the households of those in need of food and other life necessities, and provide hope.

How you can help: With more than 10,000 opportunities to lend a hand annually, volunteers at Hosea Helps work behind the scenes as warehouse or office assistants. They also work directly with the public at back-to-school or holiday dinner events. Sponsoring a program, such as Kid's Fitness, Women's Job Placement, or Solutions for Families, gives the organization a chance to target specific areas of need.
