At least one department store is trying to curb the holiday rush.

This month an image circulating on Facebook and other websites depicted a 2009 Nordstrom sign reading:

“We won’t be decking our halls until Friday, Nov. 27. Why? Well, we just like the idea of celebrating one holiday at a time. From our family to yours, Happy Thanksgiving.”

The Seattle-based retailer has taken the same stand this year it always has, says Phipps Plaza Nordstrom manager Jenny Vitale, and customers like it.

“They just appreciate that we appreciate them and that we have a different perspective. We haven’t even been through Thanksgiving, but don’t have Christmas [decorations] up. It’s just one thing at a time.”

Some stores start Black Friday sales Thanksgiving night. The earliest opening among the three Atlanta-area Nordstroms is 7 a.m. Friday.
