Lawrenceville prepares for the holidays

Take a sneak preview of the 2007 Christmas holiday decorations at the Gwinnett Historic Courthouse, in Lawrenceville.

So what, we've just recovered from Thanksgiving? The Gwinnett Historic Courthouse is ready for Christmas. The courthouse, in Lawrenceville, will be open for tours, visits and photos with Santa, as well as children's crafts on Thanksgiving night from 5-8:30 pm. Here's a sneak peek on what you'll find inside.

Shae Fox, recreation leader at the Gwinnett Historic Courthouse, shows one of the dozens of small buildings used to create the "Wonderland Snow Village" room on display. The courthouse will be open each Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 4:30-8p.m. through Dec. 23rd.

This ornament makes you want to say "Merry ChristMoose." It hangs on one of the trees in the "Santa's House" room on historic courthouse.

A line of stockings, hung by the chimney with care, await presents and goodies. The home's decorations are assembled by staffers from Gwinnett County Parks and Recreation.

Ol' St. Nick himself will arrive at the courthouse during the treelighting ceremony on Thanksgiving night. A tray of milk and cookies waits his arrival.

Ever wonder how candy canes get their stripes? Santa's elves (from left to right: Rianna Major, Audrey Douches, and Riley Henson) paint them on one by one.

In "Santa's Workshop," one of the rooms on display, baby dolls wait to be finished up and then delivered on Christmas morn. The courthouse display is in its 20th year.

A line of nutcracker soldiers stand guard at the courthouse. The holiday tours event is sponsored by the City of Lawrenceville, the Lawrenceville Tourism and Trade Association and various area merchants.
