Atlanta is known as a tennis-friendly community, with many casual and league players. It's also home to plenty of public tennis centers that make it convenient to find a place to play. Bitsy Grant Tennis Center

Bitsy Grant has 13 clay courts and 10 hard courts (all lighted). Lessons and weekly clinics are also offered. Courts are open Monday-Thursday from 9 a.m.-10 p.m., Friday from 9 a.m.-7 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Prices start at $3 per hour and vary according to the time of day and the type of court, and city residents and seniors also get a discount. Players younger than 18 years old can play for free on weekdays. Yearly passes are also available for residents for $200 (hard court) and $300 (clay court) and includes daytime play only.

Sandy Springs Tennis Center

Sandy Springs Tennis Center was named one of the finest public tennis facilities in the country by Tennis Magazine. It has 24 lighted courts (20 hard and four clay), and prices start at $4 per person per hour from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Winter hours are Monday and Wednesday 9 a.m.-9 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday 9 a.m.-9 p.m. and Friday, Saturday and Sunday 9 a.m.-6 p.m.

Blackburn Tennis Center

Blackburn Tennis Center has 18 lighted hard courts and offers a variety of programs, including "Learn to Play" five-week sessions, advance drills and round-robin events. Hours of operation are Monday-Thursday 9 a.m.-10 p.m., Friday 9 a.m.-9 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m.-6 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Weekend times may change during winter months. Court fees start at $3 per hour per person during the day, and a ball machine can be rented for $15 for a half hour or $25 for an hour.

Chastain Park Tennis Center

Chastain Park has nine newly resurfaced lighted hard courts. Morning and evening adult tennis clinics are offered for all levels, including a Cardio Tennis and a Yo Pro (young professionals) clinic. Costs range from $15 to $25 for clinics and start at $3 per person to play. Hours of operation are Monday-Thursday 9 a.m.-9 p.m., Friday and Saturday 9 a.m.-7 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m.-7 p.m.
