There’s a happy ending in store for a mother dog and her puppies who were found on the side of the road in Darien last week.

McIntosh County Animal Services shared a post on Facebook explaining a dog was tied to a crate that her puppies were put in before they were found on Donnelly road.

“We know there is evil in this world and this just further proves that! This poor mama dog watched as someone put her four young puppies into a wire crate and then tied a blue belt around her collar and then tied the belt to this crate and left them down a dirt road!!!,” the post said in part.

“Luckily for them a man and his son just so happened to be driving by said road and saw the mama dog dragging the crate with her babies inside down this road. Thank you to the kind souls who brought them into MCAS. Everyone has since been fed, watered (they were very thirsty) ,vaccinated, dewormed, bathed and deflead,” the post continued.

MCAS Director Marianna Hagan told WTOC that upon the puppies and dog arriving to the shelter, they "smelled really, really bad" and "were covered with fleas, with ticks and feces."

“There was barely any room for them to turn around,” she said of the crated puppies.

A week after the puppies and mother dog were brought in, however, good news came to the shelter.

"Mama and babies are going to Fancy Cat and dog rescue I'm Virginia!" read an updated version of the post. In a separate post, MCAS shared that the organization, Pilots and Paws, will be transporting the animals to the Virginia rescue Sunday.

Additionally, Fancy Cats & Dogs Rescue Team is accepting donations via mail and PayPal to aid the mother and her pups. Meanwhile, anyone who has information on how the dog and puppies wound up abandoned is asked to call 912-437-4242. Calls will remain anonymous, MCAS said.
