Groom fakes his own death to get out of wedding

Tucker Blandford, 23, met Alex Lancaster, also 23, while Lancaster was attending college in Connecticut.

While the two quickly fell in love, Lancaster feared that when she returned home to the United Kingdom, the separation would doom their relationship. Instead, Blandford proposed marriage, and Lancaster accepted.

Lancaster says that Blandford was a gentleman throughout their relationship, giving her jewelry and taking her out to expensive restaurants. Blandford also introduced his fiancée to his parents, and Lancaster said they treated her just like family.

After the proposal, the couple began preparing for a wedding in Connecticut. Lancaster paid for  a wedding dress, invitations and airplane tickets so her fiancé could visit her in the U.K.

All was well, until she received a phone call from a man who she thought was Blandford’s father.

The man told Lancaster that his son had been depressed and suicidal, and had killed himself by throwing himself in front of a car.

Shocked and devastated, Lancaster called back the Blandford household a little while later.

This time, Blandford’s mother answered. She dropped a few bombshells on Lancaster   Blandford was alive and well. The mother had not heard any news of a wedding, and thought the couple had broken up.

It turns out that Blandford had faked his father's voice to deliver the news of his own staged suicide to Lancaster.

Blandford eventually confessed to the elaborate ruse to break off his engagement. He told the Daily Mail that while  Lancaster is a wonderful girl, he got scared and wanted out of the relationship.

He has apologized to Lancaster via text and has paid half of the wedding-related expenses.

But Lancaster is not ready to forgive just  yet. She called her fiancé’s actions, “gutless” in a U.K. media interview.

Lancaster is ready to move on with her career. She has reportedly started a business creating wedding favors.
