As health care workers on the frontlines of the coronavirus pandemic spend long hours on their feet, a Georgia running store is trying to ensure they have  proper footwear.

Earlier this week, the North Georgia Running Company in Cumming shared on its Facebook page that it was giving “away a free pair of Gently used Hokas to any essential workers in our community while supplies last.”

On a first-come, first-serve basis, the store had about 70 pairs of shoes to give away, which usually sell for $140.

"We are trying to support all of those people that are on the front lines," the store's owner Alex Rodriguez told 11Alive. "We feel the love and they've been supportive of us in the past, so we believe it is our turn to give something back to the community."

According to the TV station, most of the shoes have now been claimed.

Employees at the store set up tables of shoes outside for folks to drive up and claim. They were given away on the honor system, with no other requirements.
