‘Remember, this is just an intermission,’ the theater’s CEO Allan Vella said in a video message Tuesday

Since the end of March, the Fox Theatre’s marquee sign has displayed the message, “This is only an intermission.”

In a new video on Tuesday, the theater’s CEO Allan Vella doubled down on the positive message of someday returning and gathering again, but stopped short of saying when that would be.

“These are extraordinary times that we’re living in. We never imagined a time when we cannot open our doors. We can all agree that the Fox Theatre is one of the finest theaters in the world, but it was designed to bring communities together so without you, it is just a beautiful building,” he said in the video. “We anxiously await the time when we can reopen our doors, but until then keep you and your family safe. And remember, this is just an intermission.”

In an email to patrons of the theater, Vella wrote, “I want to start by sharing how much we miss you. We extend our sincere gratitude for your well wishes and your continued support.”

“We remain committed to doing our part to help keep everyone – our patrons, staff and performers – safe. Our decisions will be guided first and foremost with health and wellness in mind,” Vella’s email read.

Vella did not offer details on a timeline for when the theater will reopen.

Amid the temporary closure, the theater has had to postpone or cancel several high-profile runs, including “Hamilton,” which has been rescheduled for August and September.
