The metro Atlanta area is serious about its barbecue, with restaurants often included in national rankings.

The AJC’s annual Best of Atlanta poll for barbecue is one readers participate in most, second only to our pizza poll.

» This is the best barbecue in Atlanta, according to AJC readers

So Yelp’s choice for the best barbecue in Georgia came as bit of a surprise. We’ve never written about it. Many of us had never heard of it.

A few years ago, Socks' Love Barbecue in Cumming "went from catering with a restaurant on the side to a restaurant that caters on the side," Forsyth County News wrote last year.

“One of the most important things you can do for or with someone is share a meal with them or provide a meal for someone,” Steve Hartsock, owner and chef, told FCN. “... I want people to come here and feel like they’re a part of what we’re doing, a part of our family.”

» Atlanta's reputation on the rise as 'a serious barbecue town'

Socks’ Love bills itself as “wood-fired honest barbecue + creative comfort sides.”

Those sides, including “OMG” mac & cheese, fire roasted cream corn, and garlic green beans, also get rave reviews on Yelp.

Sometimes the sides get a better review than the meat.

» One of the best barbecue restaurants in US is right here in Atlanta, report says

For every two- or three-star review, however, there are a dozen five-star posts on Yelp.
