Jekyll Island is known for its beaches and summer activities, but its annual Holly Jolly Jekyll celebration transforms the favorite summer destination into a winter wonderland.

The event returns in 2019 with a display of lights, ice skating, a winter carnival and the lighting of the Great Tree.

With parking at $8 a day, this celebration features mostly free events. See below for some of the major holiday happenings now through Jan. 5, 2020.

Holly Jolly Light Tours

The 40-minute lights tour includes a stop at Faith Church and concludes with holiday beverages.

Nov. 29-Dec. 29, Thursday-Saturday from 6:30-7:10 p.m., excluding Dec. 7.

The cost is $15 for adults, $7 for children 5-12, while children 4 and under ride free.

Jekyll Island Skating Village

Glide on ice skates on a synthetic ice rink in the Historic District with a view of the Jekyll River.

Now through Jan. 5, Monday-Friday from 3-9 p.m., and Saturday through Sunday 10 a.m.-10 p.m.

The cost is $5 per person and includes a 30-minute session and skate rental.

Holly Jolly Jekyll Parade and Lighting of the Great Tree

The 1.5-mile parade begins at the Jekyll Island Golf Course and ends at the Main Lawn where Santa will light the Great Tree.

Saturday, December 7 from 5:30-7 p.m.

The event is free to attend.
