If you’re looking for a way to celebrate Black History Month in an informative and action-packed way, look no further than the drama/action film, “Harriet.”

The biographical movie about famed abolitionist Harriet Tubman is screening for free at Regal Arbor Place 18 & IMAX in Douglasvile for two days this month.

On Feb. 4 and Feb. 11, the Cynthia Erivo-starring film will screen twice each day in honor of Black History Month. The first screening is at 7 p.m. and the second is at 9:30 p.m. Attendees can get their tickets here.

The Douglasville theater is one of 50 across the U.S. hosting screenings for the historical picture.

“Harriet” follows the slave-turned-abolitionist as she heads back through dangerous territory to lead others to freedom. As she risks capture and death to guide hundreds to safety along the underground railroad, she had allies in abolitionist William Still, a real-life conductor along the underground railroad played by Leslie Odom Jr., and boarding house owner Marie Buchanon, a fictional character portrayed by Janelle Monáe.

Erivo’s portrayal has been well-received and earned her two Oscar nominations: Best Actress and Best Original Song for “Stand Up,” which she co-wrote with Joshuah Brian Campbell. Those followed Golden Globe nominations for Best Actress in a Motion Picture — Drama and Best Original Song — Motion Picture.

Should Erivo win at least one Oscar, she’d become the youngest EGOT winner, having already won a Daytime Emmy, Grammy and a Tony Award all tied to her turn in “The Color Purple,” which, like “Harriet,” also earned critical acclaim.

The free screening of “Harriet” follows moivegoers buying out theaters following the film’s November release. Erivo spoke about the significance of that before accepting the Breakthrough Performance Award at the Palm Springs International Film Festival.

"I love the idea of supporting others in that way," she told The Hollywood Reporter. "What it means is that there's an army of people supporting not just the film but me as well. That they wanted to share it with others who might not have been able to buy a ticket meant a lot."
