Atlanta Celebrates Photography

Check out some of the works that will be on view during the month-long Atlanta Celebrates Photography event.

Atlanta fine-art photographer Sheila Pree Bright wheat-pasted epic-sized portraits, including "Aaron," from the "Young Americans" series on the David T. Howard School in the Historic Old Fourth Ward. Photography by Jan Kapoor is included in the exhibit "Women in Focus Portfolio Review" at the Seen Gallery in Decatur. Opening Oct. 12, the exhibit is part of Atlanta Celebrates Photography 2013.

Kathryn Kolb's photographs are, along with photos by Betty Edge and paintings by Stephen Pentak, included in the exhibit "A Painterly Nature." It opens Oct. 18 at Thomas Deans Fine Art. The exhibit is part of Atlanta Celebrates Photography 2013.

Jennifer Schwartz Gallery presents the exhibition "The Heart and the Heavy," by Heather Evans Smith of Winston-Salem, N.C., starting Nov. 1. The exhibit is part of Atlanta Celebrates Photography 2013.

"Down and Out in the South," an exhibit of portraiture of homeless people by Dutch photographer Jan Banning, opens Oct. 26 at Hagedorn Foundation Gallery. The exhibit is part of Atlanta Celebrates Photography 2013. David (b. Detroit, MI, 1967).

Aldo Ramirez and four other photographers are included in the exhibit "Atlanta Roller Girls" at Crazy Cuban Sandwich Shop in Midtown. You can meet some of the photographers and their subjects at the one-day exhibit/open house from noon to 7 p.m. Oct. 12. The event is part of Atlanta Celebrates Photography 2013.

The exhibition "Manipulated," on view at SCAD Atlanta's Gallery See, includes Christopher Bucklowski's "Tetrarch 5:04 PM, 31st July," a dye destruction print. The exhibit is part of Atlanta Celebrates Photography 2013. CONTRIBUTED BY JACKSON FINE ART.

An Irish photographer living in Paris, Kevin Hayden explores the mythos of the famed Vermeer painting "he Girl With the Pearl Earring." The exhibition "Women With a Pearl Earring" opens Oct. 4 at La Galerie in Midtown. The exhibit is part of Atlanta Celebrates Photography 2013.

The exhibition "Lucinda Bunnen: Georgia Portraits"includes this photograph of Coretta Scott King with Herman Russell, at Spelman College in 1977. The show opens Oct. 18 at the Atlanta Preservation Center offices in the L.P. Grant Mansion in Grant Park. The exhibit is part of Atlanta Celebrates Photography 2013.

The photography exhibit �Posing Beauty� at the Spelman Museum of Art includes this picture of Essence editor Susan Taylor captured by Ken Ramsay around 1970. The exhibit is part of Atlanta Celebrates Photography 2013.

Gregor Turk's "Apparitions," an Atlanta Celebrates Photography public art commission, is a series of changing billboards shown on the Beltline in Midtown near Piedmont Park at the intersection of 10th Street and Monroe Drive.

Twenty images by National Geographic photographer Alison Wright will be on view starting Oct. 3 in the Pace Academy Fine Arts Center. The exhibit is part of Atlanta Celebrates Photography 2013.
