The “Barbie” movie has officially made $1 billion at the box office, and it’s led to all things Barbie trending online and everywhere else — from Ryan Gosling making the Hot Billboard 100 charts with “I’m Just Ken” to America Ferrera’s monologue about being a woman. It’s also led to a surge in interest about actual Barbie dolls.
Now, Weird Barbie, as played by SNL alum Kate McKinnon in the film, is coming to a toy store near you.
With her bad haircut, stretched out limbs and mismatched clothes, Weird Barbie is what happens when playtime goes off the rails and kids get creative. And on Saturday, Mattel announced on Instagram that they’ll be adding Weird Barbie to their collection.
“Time to get weird 🖍️ Inspired by her look in @BarbieTheMovie, Weird #Barbie knows what it’s like to play just a liiiiittle too much! Pre-order your official movie doll by August 18, only at #MattelCreations. #BarbieTheMovie is now playing in theaters,” said the caption.
McKinnon and director Greta Gerwig have a long history together, as the two were college students in New York City together.
“We made really wonderfully strange musicals together when we were in college,” Gerwig told PEOPLE. “We were just 19 making a weird musical together and thinking like, ‘I hope someone will wanna work with us one day.’ Then cut to 39 and to just be calling her and saying, ‘Do you wanna be in this big thing?’”
Since the release of the film, Mattel has been busy producing various dolls in the likeness of the characters, including Simu Liu’s Ken and Issa Rae’s President.
Barbie fans can pre-order Weird Barbie on Mattel’s website now.
