According to Variety, Vince Vaughn is joining the upcoming sequel to 2004′s cult favorite, “Dodgeball.”

Not much is known about the film, which is still in development, but Vaughn will reprise his role as Average Joes Gym owner Peter La Fleur.

ComicBook.com reported that fellow “Dodgeball” star Justin Long revealed on his podcast that Vaughn had an idea for the sequel, but that producer Ben Stiller was hesitant.

“Of course I would love to do it and I hope that it ends up happening,” Long explained. “But I think Ben Stiller is a little—what he told me on that podcast was that he’s a little trepidatious about doing a sequel to something so beloved, something that people enjoy so much.”

While Stiller has not commented on the project, Variety reports that the original film’s writer and director, Rawson Marshall Thurber is on board for the sequel. In a 2021 Q&A with Deadline, Thurber discussed the idea.

“You know what — never say never. I never thought about Dodgeball as a series, but that actually might be fun,” he said. “I’m really proud of “Dodgeball.” It’s my first film and something people still really like it seems.”

The first “Dodgeball” movie was about a group of misfits who enter a Las Vegas dodgeball tournament in order to save their cherished local gym.
