Georgia’s U.S. Senate runoffs are underway and while many are lining up at the polls today, others elected to request absentee ballots and vote by mail.
Film mogul and Atlanta resident Tyler Perry was one of them, but he tweeted on Monday that he’d requested the ballot on Dec. 2 and despite being told it was mailed on Dec. 4, he had yet to receive it.

Soon, former Democratic gubernatorial nominee Stacey Abrams tweeted “we’ve got you.” She noted that if someone has requested a ballot but they haven’t yet received it, they should vote in person and inform the person at the check-in table that they’d like to cancel their ballot.
“Hey @staceyabrams, I flew home because I didn’t get it. I will be there early in the morning. Too important to miss. Too important to miss!” Perry, who had apparently been out of town, tweeted in response.
“Thank you for always being in the fight!” Abrams replied.
In an irregular event, two U.S. Senate runoffs are taking place in the Peach State today. One is between Republican Kelly Loeffler, who was appointed to the seat in Dec. 2019 by Gov. Brian Kemp, and Democrat Raphael Warnock. The other is between Republican incumbent David Perdue and Democrat Jon Ossoff.
Perry posted proof that he’d made it to the polls to vote early by Tuesday morning.
Throughout this election season, Perry, who hosted the Democratic presidential debate at Tyler Perry Studios in 2019, has been more openly political than he has in the past. He told Variety magazine in October that his 5-year-old son, Aman, has inspired him to be more vocal than ever.
“If it were just me, I could step back and maybe have a different opinion,” he said. “But I want him to be able to go to the national parks, and they’re not drilling inside of them, to be able to turn on a debate and see two men stand professionally, giving each other the respect to finish their two minutes that they’re allotted and not talking over and screaming at each other.”
