With fall decor in place and Halloween movies available on all the streaming platforms, it’s officially spooky season. If you’re looking for a real scare, consider booking a ghost tour.

Georgia’s historic cities are the perfect backdrop for those seeking an eerie experience. From cities you’ve frequented but never realized were haunted, to far-flung farms with games galore, October is the perfect time to check in with the paranormal all around you.

Before you head out on your ghoulish adventure, be sure to check the event website for details regarding COVID guidelines.

If you dare, check out the list below:

Escape Woods

Escape Woods combines the frights of a ghost tour with the thrill of an escape room. There are several unique experiences to try, including an escape from the Stranger Things cabin and a twisted, 18-and-up adventure hunting down “The Cult of the 7 Sins” leader deep in the woods.

Decatur Ghost Tour

Led by a professional psychic medium and paranormal investigator, this one-mile ghost tour begins at Decatur’s historic town square. Tour stops include a visit to the Old Decatur Cemetery and to one of the oldest two-story homes in town. Rumor has it that the cries of wounded soldiers can be heard along the way. The tour is offered year-round on weekends, with a few added dates in October.

Roswell Ghost Tour

The Roswell Ghost Tour knows just how haunted its historic town is and provides spooky strolls year-round. In October, tours occur almost every night. The tour is a lengthy one, at two and a half hours, and includes a visit to Founders Cemetery, where city founder Roswell King is buried.

Capturing the Spirit of Oakland Halloween Tour

This Atlanta favorite is back after a yearlong hiatus due to COVID, and will take place over three weekends from October 14 through October 31. Designed to “enlighten rather than frighten”, a knowledgeable guide takes guests through the historic cemetery to meet some of Oakland’s most notable and notorious residents after dark.

Most times and dates have sold out, so book what you can while you can.

Ghosts of Marietta

Guests are taken on a lantern-led walk through the streets of downtown Marietta while hearing stories about the spirits who never left the city’s historic district. Wear comfortable walking shoes and, if you tend to scare easily, feel free to bring a flashlight. Tours are held Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays year-round.

If walking isn’t for you, try the haunted bus tour.
