Just weeks after Rihanna’s Super Bowl baby bump broke the internet, another celebrity pregnancy has social media freaking out. Rapper and “Brat Loves Judy” star Da Brat announced that she is pregnant with the couple’s first child. The announcement was a People exclusive.
“It’s been quite a journey,” Da Brat, whose real name is Shawntae Harris-Dupart, wrote. “There’s a lot of stuff we learned about women over the age of 40.”
Judy Harris-Dupart is 41 and the CEO of Kaleidoscope Hair Products, which is preparing to launch a new line inspired by her wife’s iconic braids.
“I never really wanted to have kids until I met her, until I came out of the closet and started living my life out loud and [was] able to share with the world who I love, and you know, what I love doing with the person I love,” Da Brat told Good Morning America.
The road to pregnancy has been difficult for the power couple. Da Brat admitted that she was initially hesitant to carry the child, but reconsidered after Judy experienced health complications following her egg retrieval process.
Da Brat stepped in, but discovered just how difficult it can be to have a baby at her age. She first had to have surgery to remove fibroids and polyps. Even then, she suffered a miscarriage early in their efforts.
“I had never been so excited about something that I didn’t even know I wanted,” she said. “I fell in love with the idea and then it was all snatched away from me.”
Now, the dynamic duo are excited, and Da Brat is exuding a glow as the couple prepares to welcome another child to their blended family.
