Location, location, location — that’s been the longstanding mantra when determining the three most important factors for your next home. But as the housing market continues to heat up in a post-COVID-19 economy, our needs have fundamentally changed.
Instead of location, renters nowadays see apartment space as the most important aspect in selecting their next home. And to help apartment seekers find the most space for their buck, RentCafe analyzed apartment prices and sizes in the 100 largest U.S. cities. to find where they can rent the most space on a $1,500 per month budget.
The South and Midwest offer the best deals, with Wichita, Kansas, topping the list at just under 1600 square feet. Renters on the East and West coasts, on the other hand, offer the least space. In Manhattan, New York renters get less than 300 square feet for $1,500.
Atlanta ranked 59th in RentCafe’s list, averaging 821 square feet for $1,500.
For those willing to move further from the city, apartments in Clarkston offer as much as 1,413 square feet for $1,500. Followed by Forest Park at 1,347 square feet and Morrow at 1,290 square feet.
Surprisingly, apartments in Alpharetta (773 square feet), Sandy Springs (791 square feet) and Chamblee (820 square feet) all offer less square footage for the price than Atlanta.
