It’s almost a new season, which means it’s time to consider changing up your living space. For those looking to get started on that big kitchen renovation project, there are a number of wonderful ways to spruce up the space.

Here are some of the year’s top kitchen interior design trends to help influence that big project on your mind.

Muted greens

According to Good Housekeeping, muted greens in the kitchen are a big trend this year. In general, trendy designers are consistently gravitating towards a more natural aesthetic.

“In lieu of grays and greiges, a more natural color palette will be a trend, especially in kitchen design,” Gil Walsh of Gil Walsh Interiors told Good Housekeeping. “Of course, that palette includes green. The emphasis will be on muted, soothing shades like olive, fern and sage.”

For a calming, fresh and trendy shade, consider giving your cooking space a fresh coat of green.

Play with patterns

Playing with patterns is another top trend in the kitchen, according to Homes and Gardens. From backsplashes to cupboard interiors, there are a number of ways to spice up your kitchen with interesting patterns.

“Used in this way, pattern makes a statement without overwhelming the space or detracting from the timelessness of the cabinetry,” Richard Moore of Martin Moore told Homes and Gardens.

Mixed metals

Mixing metals in the kitchen has grown increasingly popular. From black metals to brass, mixing metals can be a great way to give your cooking space an earthy tone.

“Lately, we’ve been enjoying a mix of brass, nickels and black metals for a layered, pieced-together look. In this kitchen, a black faucet and polished nickel knobs are paired with a custom vent hood.” Kate Lester of Kate Lester Interiors told HGTV. “Your faucet does not have to match your lights and cabinet hardware. If you’re going with a stainless or satin nickel faucet and appliances, mix it up with black or brass hardware and lights. The repetition will balance out the mix and add a layer of depth and interest.”

Textured surfaces

According to Livingetc, textures have gone from the living room and the bedroom to the kitchen in 2022.

“Visible grain on timbers, especially on crown cut oak and ash veneers, brushed metals, honed, leathered or textured stone finishes & concrete” are making their ways into the cooking space, Oana Sandu of Blakes London told Livingetc.

“Textures and materials are constantly evolving in kitchens, and with homeowners growing in confidence with their design choices, the finishes are becoming bolder,” Graeme Smith of Design at Life Kitchens added.

To add personality to your cooking space, consider how you can best utilize textures for a unique look.
