Offset has revealed that he’ll be releasing new music on July 28. But instead of a press release or a tweet, fans got a wacky recreation of an infamous 1998 CNN interview with Godfather of Soul James Brown.
The “Clout” rapper channeled James Brown — complete with a wig, a tan suit and colored sunglasses — as “reporter” Jamie Lee Curtis peppered him with questions about his relationship with wife Cardi B.
“Fans are saying there’s a lot of drama between you and your beautiful wife Cardi B,” says Curtis in the viral clip that already has more than 3 million views on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. Offset laughs off the question in signature James Brown style before suggesting “let’s talk about some music.”
The video spoofs a 1998 interview in which Brown laughs off accusations of domestic abuse with a series of strange musical outbursts. It’s generally considered one of the more bizarre celebrity interviews ever recorded.
In Offset’s care the drama started with a June social media post in which the rapper accused wife Cardi B of cheating. That drew a fiery response from Cardi B.
“First of all, let me say, you can’t accuse me of all the things you know that you are guilty of. Sing it with me, y’all! And I see that it is easy for you to blame everything on me. Yes, honey!” she wrote on Instagram.
The two settled their differences in private and have shown a united front ever since. Cardi B reposted this new video on her Instagram Stories, adding, “Lmaaaoooooooo....I can’t wait!!!”
