Located less than two hours from Atlanta is Macon, Georgia — a big little town, loaded with music history. Once home to Little Richard, the Allman Brothers Band and Otis Redding, Macon’s music scene continues to thrive today.
A brand new festival, Sound of Soul Culture Festival, is set to arrive in town on Saturday, April 30 at Henderson Stadium. The soul-filled event — part backyard barbecue, part old-school funk concert — is a celebration of music, culture and the resilience of the African American experience.
“The Sound of Soul Culture Festival highlights great soul music artists, food, and an atmosphere conducive to memorable and fun times amongst family and friends. In addition to bringing well-known artists to the area, we are committed to providing a platform for local artists to also gain more visibility, and new opportunities to share their talents,” the festival’s website reads.
The line-up includes Cameo, Lakeside, the Bar-Kays and other talented artists. In addition to food, beverages and merchandise available for purchase, guests are also welcome to bring coolers filled with their own goodies, as long as they leave glass bottles and containers at home.
General admission tickets are $40 in advance and $50 on the day of the event. Guests must bring their own lawn chairs to enjoy the show. Platinum tickets are $70 in advance and $80 on the day of the festival, and include a reserved seat, along with a t-shirt, souvenir book and access to upgraded restrooms.
