Megan Thee Stallion was in Houston’s Minute Maid Park on Thursday to throw the first pitch at the Astros’ opening day game. While the Houston native’s pitch won’t be winning her any MLB contracts this season, the self professed “Hot Girl Coach” certainly had heads turning.

The rapper practiced beneath the stadium before coming onto the field dressed to impress. She wore a white Astros jersey with her last name (Pete) and the number 222 on the back, along with a “Hot Girl” diamond chain that sparkled under the Minute Maid Park lights. Soaking in the moment, Megan Thee Stallion took the mound and gazed out at her adoring crowd. There was a pregnant pause before she approached the plate and jokingly told Astros first baseman David Hensley that she was scared.

Megan Thee Stallion threw the pitch to Hensley with all she had, ultimately landing her pitch a little outside and in the left-handed batter’s box. Hensley made the play and she closed out the ceremony with a quick hug from the Astros’ mascot, Orbit. Megan Thee Stallion’s opening Astros game pitch certainly wasn’t a strike, but she managed to get the ball to the plate — a feat not every celebrity pitcher accomplishes.

The iconic rapper is not the first hip-hop artist to pitch out of Minute Maid Park. Houston’s Bun B threw the ceremonial first pitch before Game 4 of the 205 American League Division Series. His attempt ended up being nothing more than a ground ball.

In April 2019, Travis Scott took the mound for the ceremonial first pitch when the Astros played the Oakland A’s. Scott also fouled his pitch with a ground ball.

50 Cent’s 2014 pitch before the New York Mets vs. Pittsburgh Pirates game remains one of the most deflating ceremonial first pitches in recent MLB history. The awkward toss sailed far to the left, coming closer to an unsuspecting camera man on the foul line to first base than the catcher. It’s a moment Citi Field is unlikely to forget any time soon.

In the context of hip-hop’s greatest and worst appearances on the mound, Megan Thee Stallion’s ceremonial first pitch performance is sure to win over some Astros fans this year. As Budweiser was quick to comment after her performance, “Classy, boujee, all-star.”
