A beloved outdoor festival is coming back in 2021.

After the coronavirus pandemic meant organizers had to cancel last year’s event, the Kirkwood Spring Fling is back on.

“We’re excited to announce the return of the 18th annual Kirkwood Spring Fling! Join us for a day of sun, food & drink, music & local artists in the heart of historic Kirkwood,” the event description said on Facebook.

Proceeds from the event benefit the Kirkwood Neighbors Organization, a local nonprofit focused on improving the community.

Much of the expected family fun is planned, but this year’s free event won’t actually occur in the spring. Instead, it’ll occur in the middle of summer — beginning at noon Saturday, July 31.

Organizers admit other changes are also in store.

To maintain safety, a Facebook post announcing the event said “things will be a bit smaller this year.”

“Watch this space for more info, including how to apply for the artist market and register for the 5K road race!” it added.

The Kirkwood Spring Fling 5K Road Race will also come back for 2021.

Beginning at 7:30 a.m., participants can jog through the historic Kirkwood on a gently sloping route. By 10:30 a.m., everyone from expert runners to beginners with pets and strollers will be back downtown in time for the Spring Fling Festival.

The Spring Fling is the largest yearly fundraiser for Kirkwood. Attendees regularly applaud the atmosphere, which lends itself well to a food and music festival.

“Local artists and vendors come here to sell their arts, crafts, and artisanal-style food. This is a great event to buy your gifts for the rest of the year!” a Yelp user said.
