“Scandal” star Kerry Washington is about to add author to her list of accomplishments.

Her memoir, “Thicker Than Water,” is set to be released on September 26, 2023, and will show how Washington has navigated her personal and professional life. For fans, the book will offer a rare glimpse into the famously private star’s life.

“Writing a memoir is, by far, the most deeply personal project I have ever taken on,” Washington told PEOPLE. “I hope that readers will receive it with open hearts and I pray that it offers new insights and perspectives, and invites people into deeper compassion — for themselves and others.”

A press release noted that the memoir will give readers a view into the “School for Good and Evil” star’s life as “an artist, advocate, entrepreneur, mother, daughter, wife and a Black woman.”

“So many of us have been captivated by her work, both on- and offscreen, but few have the full picture of all it took to get there,” Tracy Behar, vice president and publisher at Little, Brown Spark, said in a statement.

Since “Scandal,” Washington has kept busy. She’s currently a producer on ABC’s “Reasonable Doubt” and just wrapped up filming Tyler Perry’s latest project “Six Triple Eight” — which tells the story of the only all-Black, all-female battalion to serve overseas during World War II.
