Jada Pinkett Smith isn’t hiding her hair loss.

Pinkett Smith shaved her head in July after being inspired by her daughter, Willow Smith. Now, she’s letting fans know about how her alopecia has continued to develop.

“Now, at this point I can only laugh,” “The Matrix Resurrections” star said in an Instagram video. “I mean y’all know I’ve been struggling with alopecia and just all of a sudden, one day — look at this line right here — look at that. And so, it just showed up like that.”

Pinkett Smith pointed out an area on her scalp that was bald despite some hair growing in on the rest of her head.

Admitting it would be “a little bit more difficult for me to hide,” the actress said she was sharing to avoid questions.

“Mama’s gonna have to take it down to the scalp so nobody thinks she got brain surgery or something,” she captioned the video. “Me and this alopecia are going to be friends … period!”

What is alopecia?

Alopecia is an autoimmune disorder that causes hair to come out, often in clumps, according to WebMD.

Frequently, the only symptom is hair loss. It can include small bald patches on the scalp or other areas of the body, hair growing back in one area and falling out in another and more hair loss in cold weather.

Why alopecia occurs is unknown, but doctors suspect there could be a genetic component that increases its likeliness, triggering hair loss.

Alopecia is more likely to occur if you have asthma, thyroid disease, vitiligo or seasonal allergies. It’s also more likely for people with Down syndrome and people with family members who have alopecia.

UK website Patient.info reported that it can occur at any age, but 80% of cases occur before 40. It affects men and women equally. Usually, it’s milder if it happens at an older age.
