The average price of gasoline in the U.S. is now a record $4.33 per gallon, and in Georgia, it’s an average of $4.29 — nearly $2 more than this time last year, according to AAA.

However, gas for less than $4 per gallon is still available at tens of thousands of service stations across the country.

Here are a few resources for finding find cheap — or at least the cheapest — gas in your area:

Use gas apps

Gas tracking apps are a great way to show you what the current prices are at stations in your area.

Google Maps and Waze both highlight gas stations on their maps and display the price per gallon of “regular” gas. And because both apps are designed for navigation, getting directions to the station is as simple as a single tap.

Other helpful apps include GasBuddy, Fuelio and Gas Guru, according to Julie Bausch, managing editor of Car Talk.

“Coincidentally, they were very helpful this past year when the southeast had pipeline issues, and there was no gas in Atlanta for a week or two. Remember that? GasBuddy helped me know when and where the gas was, so I didn’t have to wait in lines, or waste gas looking for it,” said Bausch.

Sign up for membership programs

Costco, Sam’s Club, Kroger and BJ’s Wholesale all have locations throughout the state, and their members-only fuel stations allow you to fill up without breaking the bank. Most stations can save you 5-10 cents per gallon, but the actual savings will depend on your location and the station.

If you’d rather avoid warehouse membership programs or don’t have a location convenient to you, gas station chains such as RaceTrac offer rewards programs through credit cards.

Know when to fuel up

Whenever possible, fill up on days when gas is cheapest. Across the majority of the U.S., gas prices are typically lower on Mondays, with Sundays being the second cheapest on average, according to a recent survey by GasBuddy.

“Don’t fill up on Fridays or anywhere around big highway exits or airports. Anything closer to the weekend and near a large highway exit will be more expensive. Monday is the best day to get gas, early morning if you can,” said Bausch.
