Health experts say getting a flu shot is especially important this year, and there are many places to get the flu vaccine in metro Atlanta, some of them are free as long as you have health insurance.

Your doctor’s office is a great place to start, as well as any urgent cares, hospitals and school campus health centers. For those who have health insurance, check the patient portal for your company for a list of flu shot locations

Walgreens and CVS Pharmacy offer flu shots. Walk-ins are welcome, according to both pharmacies, but save time by scheduling an appointment. Grocery stores with in-store pharmacies, such as Kroger and Publix, also offer flu shots.

Some health departments in Georgia, including the DeKalb County Board of Health, plan to start offering flu vaccines next week at all of its all locations currently offering the COVID vaccine. This will also allow people to get the flu vaccine and the COVID vaccine at the same time, and it would allow someone getting a booster dose to get a flu vaccine at the same time.

Others, such as the Gwinnett, Newton & Rockdale County Health Departments will offer only the COVID-19 vaccine at a mass vaccination site at the former Gwinnett Place Mall, but offer both vaccines at other locations.

If you’re unsure of where to get vaccinated near you, the CDC recommends using VaccineFinder.org to find a location in your area. For those without insurance, prices may fluctuate between $20 and $40, depending on the location.

You can check out more flu resources and information on the CDC’s Influenza (Flu) page.
