It’s no secret that “Star Wars” fans are passionate about the series and many are vocal about any developments they dislike. Unfortunately, the casting of nonwhite actors in the franchise seems to drive a certain segment of fans crazy.
When “Star Wars” announced the cast for the “Obi-Wan Kenobi” series, fans had mixed reactions — in particular towards the casting of “Queens Gambit” actress Moses Ingram to portray Reva. A vocal crowd of online fans flooded Ingram’s social media accounts with racist and vulgar words, death threats and more.
The racist remarks came in droves causing Ingram to speak out on social media. She posted some of the hateful messages on her Instagram story — which, in turn, inspired producers to speak out on the franchise’s own platforms.
“If anyone intends to make her feel in any way unwelcome, we have only one thing to say: we resist,” read the post on the official “Star Wars” Twitter account.
This sort of fan response is nothing new for franchise — actors John Boyega and Kelly Marie Tran were subjected to similar online abuse.
