Mo’Nique apologizes to fellow comedian D.L. Hughley’s family

D.L. Hughley: Fast facts.

Queens of Comedy star Mo’Nique is as known for her celebrity beefs as she is for her hilarious standup and Oscar-winning acting. After feuding with Netflix, Lee Daniels, Oprah and Tyler Perry, her latest quarrel is with fellow comedian D.L. Hughley.

The two comedy legends have had their issues in the past, but nothing like what’s transpired in the past month. During Mo’Nique’s stand-up comedy show on June 18, she publicly shared details of their contract dispute.

“The contract said that a bi**h is the headliner. The headliner. Mo’Nique is the headliner. That’s what I signed the f**k up for. I’m 30 years in this business and I don’t open for nobody. D.L. Hughley said ‘I won’t perform if she headlines,” she said during the 10-minute video.

In response, Hughley took to his Instagram, using a picture of Mo’Nique in her role as Mary in the movie “Precious.”

As the social media exchange went viral, Mo’Nique took another shot at Hughley, criticizing his reaction to his daughter’s sexual assault. That brought a response from Hughley’s other daughter, Ryan Nicole Shepard.

“Out of all things you could have legitimately said about my dad, if that’s the route you wanted to take, you chose to be deliberately mean and hurtful to two Black women who have nothing to do with this conversation.”

Shepard’s comments seem to have inspired Mo’Nique’s apology.

“I am a woman of honor,” she said to the crowd. “So, I have to do something right now publicly that I started publicly and when I f**k it up, I’ve got to fix it up. So, I’m going to take care of that right now,” she said at the beginning of the video.

The apology was issued to Hughley’s family and not him directly. Hughley has yet to respond or comment to the apology she issued to his family.
