Emotions — and tempers — were high over the weekend at the exhibition match between retired boxing champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. John Gotti III, grandson of notorious New York mobster John Gotti.
The exhibition match, which aired on the Zeus Network, ended early after referee Kenny Bayless stopped the fight during the sixth round and disqualified Gotti for repeatedly grabbing Mayweather. Gotti then shoved Bayless aside and charged Mayweather. Both fighters’ entourages rushed to the ring and a general melee broke out.
Gotti took to Instagram afterwards to share his disdain for Mayweather, declaring that the retired champ was now an “enemy for life” and claiming “Bum never put me down or stopped me. It was a DQ for no reason.”
While officials had their hands full inside the ring, tensions were also high outside the ring. Gotti’s sister Nicolette insulted Mayweather’s daughter, Yaya, which led the boxer’s sister Fannie to come to her family’s defense.
More videos continue to emerge, including one showing Mayweather’s DJ throwing jabs at Gotti and another showing “Love & Hip Hop” star Joseline Hernandez fighting an unknown woman backstage.
Gotti held a 5-1 MMA record and is 2-0 as a professional boxer, while Mayweather officially retired from the sport in 2017.
