Nothing complements Halloween season like a nice scary movie. But did you know that the state of Georgia has been the primary filming location for many of the horror movies and scary television shows you know and love?

Add these movies and shows to your Halloween watchlist for an extra local scare:

Halloween 2

In 2009, Rob Zombie’s sequel brought Michael Myers back from the dead. “Halloween 2″ was filmed in various Georgia towns including Atlanta, Covington, Madison and Newborn. Scenes that were filmed in Atlanta include Dr. Samuel Loomis’ hotel scenes, which were shot at the Intercontinental Buckhead, and his book signing scene, which took place at Best Time in Decatur, according to Then and Now Movie Locations.

Scream 2

Wes Craven followed up his 1996 classic “Scream” with this sequel in 1997. Although the majority of the film was shot in California, Agnes Scott College in Decatur and Georgia Tech in Atlanta were used alongside UCLA in Los Angeles to create the fictional Windsor College locations for the movie.

The Walking Dead

Filmed and set almost exclusively in Georgia, fans of “The Walking Dead” have plenty of locations to scope out. Some even have “Walking Dead” signage and memorabilia. Two notable sights seen in the show include Atlanta’s Jackson Street Bridge and The Goat Farm. Other locations include the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center, Downtown Senoia and the Bellwood Quarry, which today sits inside Westside Park.

Zombieland

More comedy than thriller, 2009′s “Zombieland” tells of a dysfunctional group of survivors trying to find safety during the zombie apocalypse. The movie, which stars Woody Harrelson and Emma Stone, filmed scenes at Valdosta’s Wild Adventures and the Atlanta Motor Speedway in Hampton.
