Deciding on the perfect Halloween costume can take a lot of planning. Some people take it more seriously than others, but with so much information at our fingertips the task has gotten somewhat easier.

A costume that's pinned a couple hundred thousand times or more on Pinterest is probably going to feature in a lot of bar costume contests, and maybe even a few of those closely monitored Trunk or Treat festivities at community venues.

For those identifying as male, the top Pinterest costume searches for 2019 were superhero, Viking, Spider-Man, Joker and Jedi.

In its annual list, global fashion search platform Lyst predicted that "Pop politics" would lead the Halloween costume list. In the United Kingdom, that will be Union Jack costumes, while in the U.S., "the Squad" is currently the most searched for outfit inspiration for group costumes, with online searches for "the Squad Congresswoman up +70% from the beginning of September," Lyst noted.

Rounding out the Top 5: Lizzo, "Once Upon a Time In Hollywood," "Little Women" and "Old Town Road." "The award-winning song ‘Old Town Road’ has become a strong Halloween costume inspiration thanks to the now iconic Western ensembles worn by Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus in the accompanying video," explained Lyst.
