Norcross International Women’s Day Panel and Book Signing
Head to Norcross to take part in a panel discussion on female empowerment through literature. The event will feature three metro Atlanta-based female authors: Mayra Cuevas, CNN producer and author of the newly published “Salty, Bitter, Sweet” young adult novel; Marie Marquardt, Emory University scholar-in-residence and author of three young adult titles; and Christi Paul, CNN and HLN anchor, author of her own memoir and moderator of the panel discussion, which will take place at the City of Norcross Community Center. In addition to a question-and-answer segment, book purchases and signings will take place after the event.
3-4 p.m. March 8. City of Norcross Community Center. 10 College St., NW, Norcross. 770-448-2122, mayracuevas.com, norcrossga.net.
5th Annual International Women’s Day Breakfast
The keynote speaker for the World Affairs Council of Atlanta’s annual International Women’s Day Breakfast will be Jill Ellis, the former coach of the U.S. women’s national soccer team (USWNT); she’s also the most winningest coach in all of U.S. soccer history. Since winning last summer’s FIFA Women’s World Cup and years of domination in the sport, Ellis and the members of the USWNT have famously taken their fight for equal pay to the world stage. With topics such as gender wage gaps throughout the workforce and the lack of female coaches and other personnel within professional sports, the conversation will be a new, welcomed look into the ongoing discussion on gender equality.
