DULUTH

JapanFest

For two days, the Gwinnett Convention Center will be the epicenter for all things Japanese. Now in its 28th year, JapanFest brings Japanese culture to the Southeast with a variety of activities, performances and tastings. Watch taiko drummers, take part in traditional bon dancing, see different styles of Japanese martial arts performed, or try on a kimono. A children’s area will help kids perfect their kite-making skills. The theme this year is washoku, the traditional cuisine from Japan recently added to UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage List. A number of Japanese restaurants and chefs from across the metro area will be on-site, offering cooking demonstrations and a selection of ethnic delights.

10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sept. 20; 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sept. 21. $8, children younger than 6 free. Gwinnett Convention Center, 6400 Sugarloaf Parkway, Duluth. 404-842-0736, japanfest.org.
