Yaarab Shrine Circus comes to town

The 66th Annual Yaarab Shrine Circus & Carnival, which will be at Jim R. Miller Park in Marietta from Friday through May 4.

Robert Hopps helps set up the ferris wheel for the 66th Annual Yaarab Shrine Circus & Carnival, which will be at Jim R. Miller Park in Marietta from Friday through May 4.

A female tiger peers through her cage bars. She is one of seven owned by the circus, which is billed as the largest Shrine Circus in North America. It features animals from around the world, daredevil acrobats and other entertainment.

Michael Gray works on the elephant carnival ride. The circus features a full carnival presented by Myers International Midways with rides and games for children and adults.

Dr. Jennifer Neiss, an equine veterinarian with Equine Medical Associates in Douglasville, works on a horse named Bellagio. He is one of seven that performs as part of the Liberty Horses group presented by Erika Zerbini. Bellagio had his teeth floated, a process where his ever-sharpening teeth are filed down a bit. It is done ever year or two. Bellagio was sedated for the process and didn't seem to mind the work.

Eric Rhoades sets up a carnival ride called 1,001 Nachts. The circus holds special childrens' group shows during the week for daycare centers and school groups.

Cindy Morris cleans up after Shannon. The African elephant is one of two Morris owns. She also has an Asian elephant named Cora.

Charles Wolosko (back left) sets up the goldfish game. The goal of it is to toss a ping pong ball into one of the bowls. If you do, you take home the goldfish. Wolosko says the fishes' water is tinted with food coloring and that it is safe for the fish.
