Sweater Day honors TV's Mr. Rogers

March 20 is Fred Rogers Day and everyone is invited to wear a sweater. Famous sweater-wearers throughout history.

Laugh if you like. A Pittsburgh community group wants everyone to wear sweaters on March 20 in honor of the late Fred Rogers' birthday.But Rogers wasn't the only person to make sweaters a signature part of their wardrobe, though. And if you decide not to wear a sweater on March 20, well, then, we'll still like you just the way you are.

Bill Cosby: TV funnyman (left, with Spelman president Johnnetta Cole and wife Camille) is known for wearing sweaters on his shows.

President Carter: In 1976, he retires to a study on St. Simon's Island in comfort.

Chandler Bing: Played by Matthew Perry (right), Bing dons sweater vests on "Friends." Could they be any more comfortable?(Sorry, we couldn't help ourselves.)

Ed Wood: Filmmaker famously enjoyed wearing fluffy angora sweaters. Johnny Depp played him on-screen.

Kurt Cobain: This image of Nirvana's leader "unplugged" in a cardigan is so iconic, Amazon.com sells an action figure of the late rock star.

Uga: University of Georgia mascot cheers on home team wearing varsity version.

Lana Turner: OK, we admit it: We can't tell if Turner is wearing a sweater in this still from "They Won't Forget" or not. But no sweater discussion is complete without her.

Wally Cleaver: The students at Wally's Mayfield High showed school spirit through an official cardigan on "Leave it to Beaver." Here, Ted Turner (center) gets some spirit from studio exec Sidney Sheinberg, Tony Dow (who played Wally), Barbara Billingsley and Jerry Mathers.

Weezer: In 1994, the rock band suggested, "If you want to destroy my sweater, pull this thread as I walk away."

Carlton Banks: Played by Alfonso Ribiero (right), Will Smith's preppy sidekick on "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air," embraced tennis sweaters in the '80s.

The Cardigans: Swedish rock band is well known for songs of heartbreak and despair.
